Why are the writers downplaying Captain Fire canon?
During the conversation with the two of them at Granny’s where Hook went on about backing off for Henry’s sake in particular didn’t quite ring true for me. He doesn’t even know Henry. The scene would have had an emotional punch (and showed growth on Hook’s part) had the writers acknowledged their own established canon and had him address backing off for Bae himself. Given his role with what went down with Bae’s parents and played a part in his broken childhood. It just seems all the growth Hook was slowly taking steps towards in the first half of the season showing genuine remorse, guilt, and love towards Bae, seemed pointless if all he’s going to do is constantly attempt to belittle him and whitewash Bae’s importance in his life. He kept the his sword, his scarf, and his robe (how the hell did Wendy end up with it on the Jolly Roger if Hook didn’t keep it after all of these years. Another wasted deleted scene I suspect)
Speaking of…when Hook brought up Neal walking away from Emma I was waiting for the segue when Neal would bring up Hook abandoning him to the Lost Boys. As it stands now there is no justifiable reason as to why Killian has been more hostile towards Neal since they were reunited and not the other way around. O_o
Are the writers just uncomfortable or unable to write for two male characters that don’t fall into the cliche writing tropes? I love, love, love the possibilities of a Captain Fire friendship/kinship. I just wish they would lay off of the triangle bullshit and play up the more interesting established canon with their own history. How did Hook even know where Nealfire’s cave was? Did he play a part in how Neal got off the Island? Or is there some type of connection between how Neal came to choose his alias and Killian’s past?
No. Instead why don’t you just give us more passive aggressive bullshit between both men (that is bleeding into the media and fandom) instead of ya know…allowing both men to make peace with the past and grow a pair.
